Can I attend two groups? Education/ Music
God bless you!

Jessica Britt Tue Apr 27, 2010 at 8:47 am

Sabrina,
All community groups will be taking place at the same time. Unless you can be in two places at once :), you’ll probably want to sign-up for one group.

To better serve the Next Staff, can you e-mail your request (next[at}SovGraceMin[dot]org? Thank you SO much!

So, as a literature and philosophy lover (and studier), in which group would I best fit?  The writers, maybe?  Or fine arts?  There are those, and I’m among them, that consider the critical evaluation of ancient and modern texts, and the relating of those texts to history and evolving philosophy, to be a fine art.  :-)  I like to imagine myself apart of the legacy of the Inkings, in the spirit of Lewis, Tolkien, and friends.

Jessica Britt Tue Apr 27, 2010 at 8:49 am

Hannah,
I’d suggest the Writer’s group. But, please feel free to sign-up for whatever group you’d like!

Yay! I’m glad there is an Education group!

Troy Wed Apr 28, 2010 at 5:11 pm

Are the groups just for individuals in the field or are they also for students pursuing the field.

Jessica Britt Wed Apr 28, 2010 at 9:18 pm

Troy,
Students pursuing the field as well.

Tyler Thu Apr 29, 2010 at 10:50 pm

Hey there!
I am a social worker in the social services/counselling field working specifically with children…where might I fit? Any other non-profit focused groups?

Jessica Britt Fri Apr 30, 2010 at 9:34 am

Tyler, I’d suggest education or business. The plan is to sub-divide the groups within the group.

B Fri Apr 30, 2010 at 6:48 pm

What’s going to happen at the Affinity Groups?  Will it be a social time, a group discussion, a sermon ...?

Nan Sun May 2, 2010 at 9:21 pm

I work as a nanny, and I don’t see any sort of childcare category.  However, I love writing.  Are these groups just for careers or may I join the writing group?

Jessica Britt Tue May 4, 2010 at 7:36 am

@B, the schedule for the affinity groups has not been finalized. Our desire is to give folks an opportunity to meet, talk with, and learn from other Christians in their job field.

@ Nan, Please feel free to join the writing affinity group. Another option would be the Education group. Groups will be sub-dividing.

Andy Panjaitan Tue May 4, 2010 at 3:38 pm

Hi, do you have suggestions for people like me who’re interested in the international development or non-profit organization? Would it be mission group? Thanks.

Jessica Britt Wed May 5, 2010 at 7:33 am

Andy,
I’d suggest something like the business group. The larger more general groups will be sub-dividing into smaller, more specific groups.

Amalia Franzone Wed May 5, 2010 at 9:41 am

Jessica,

I’d love to have a conversation about the plan for the Affinity groups if you are ever able.  I am a leader at Redeemer Presbyterian in NYC with our Center for Faith & Works.  I have some thoughts if you are interested.  I’ve attended several conferences with you.

Thanks so much for this opportunity and all the time that goes into putting it together! Would you suggest Medicine or Missions if I am studying the first and very interested in the second? ha! too hard to decide!

Jessica Britt Wed May 5, 2010 at 11:34 am

Arnalia,
We would love your thoughts! Do you have an e-mail address that we could e-mail you at?

Asha,
I’d suggest Medicine! :)

Thanks! :)

Joy E. Wed May 12, 2010 at 4:10 pm

What if you have an interest in two groups? Then, what do you do?

Kevin Fri May 14, 2010 at 8:29 pm

Can you make a combined Affinity group of medical + missions?

Jessica Britt Sat May 15, 2010 at 7:46 am

Joy, Our affinity groups will be meeting at the same time. So, you’ll only be able to attend one. If I had to recommend one, I’d recommend the one that you are currently working in. Our desire is to introduce you to like-minded Christians that work in the same job field as you do. However, please feel free to choose whichever you’d prefer.

Jessica Britt Sat May 15, 2010 at 7:46 am

Kevin, what a great idea. Sadly, we are not able to do that at this time. Thanks for the suggestion. We are grateful.

Joel Phillips Sun May 16, 2010 at 4:56 pm

I have a B.A. in Sign Language Studies and am fluent in ASL (American Sign Language) what is the best group for me to fit into?  My thought was possibly Education.  Also I would suggest a language or communications group if you chose to do this again in the future.  Thanks, Joel

Jessica Britt Tue May 18, 2010 at 10:50 am

Joel,
Please feel free to join whatever group you would prefer. There were so many options, that we had to narrow them down and choose the groups that people seemed to be most interested in. Yes, I’d suggest Education. :)

Clarissa Sat May 22, 2010 at 11:47 pm

Hi there! I’m curious about what exactly “Media” encompasses. I’m interested in going into new/social media on the web and I’m not really sure where I fall. I’m not really an IT techie, just someone who loves the internet and all the cool stuff you can do with it. Thanks!

Jessica Britt Mon May 24, 2010 at 8:53 am

Clarissa,
It sounds like the “Media” affinity group would be perfect for you. Enjoy!

Rachel Mon May 31, 2010 at 4:42 pm

I noticed that you said that there were so many options that you had to narrow them down to a few that people seemed most interested in, but there are “Artist”, “Fine Arts”, “Music”, “Photography”, “Film”, and “Graphic Design” groups…nothing whatsoever related to the areas of Counseling or Social Work. Next year, could you include a group for us? Thanks!

Rachel Mon May 31, 2010 at 4:45 pm

Oh, or community development? At least one group addressing some sort of “helping” or “social” profession would be great, seeing that there were so many artist groups.
