Anyone Interpret Dreams?

Hey, everybody. I’m Josh Harris and my job with Next is to plan the sessions and cheer on the incredible people led by Grant Layman who make the conference happen. As you can tell we’re all very excited about what God is going to do in Baltimore this May.

One sure sign of my own excitement about Next is that I have literally started dreaming about it. More accurately I’m having conference nightmares in which everything goes wrong. (This used to happen back when we first started the conference so it’s something of a tradition for me.)

So last week I had a dream in which we were all gathered in Baltimore in one of the main sessions. Of course there were only about a hundred people (evidently all Brian’s hard work to promote the conference didn’t work!). Bob Kauflin was leading us in worship and suddenly he and the band started teaching people hand motions to go along with the song. It was so childish and ridiculous that the whole crowd started laughing. The band was playing but instead of singing the whole crowd was howling with laughter. Then I woke up.

Anyone care to interpret that one? On second thought, I don’t really want a meaning. I’ll just commit to praying more.

You might not have been around for this, but there was a Celebration conference where we DID do hand motions (more specifically, sign language) to the music and it really impacted a lot of people.  Maybe you should make your dream a reality :-)

Laedelas, I’ve done sign language and that can be very cool. Unfortunately, in the dream the hand motions were like something from the Wiggles or Barney. It was really bad. (grin)

So which song did the hand motions go to?  Was it some old-school hymn like “Flung to the Heedless Winds” or something more contemporary?

I once had a dream that my community group leader (who also happened to be my senior pastor, who I now also serve on staff with) took away my journal in front of my community group because it was not masculine enough. This was after a message on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood by Wayne Grudem. Then all the girls in the group played a game to see who would win my journal. This was my first Na conference.

Good grief that dream was terrible.

Oh…wait…that really happened. And it was all in fun. Probably.

Josh,
Thanks for making me laugh! That’s a great dream. :) Thank you for loving us so much, that it your passion (after God, your fam, & CLC that is…)! I am so grateful for ALL you do!
Ricky, I agree with Emily…girly journal???

Wow, things are not looking so good for me.

Hand motions though… now there’s an idea.

Ricky, that is a great story. Was your journal the same “Hello Kitty” one you had when you were here at Covenant Life?

I love the gospel.  This is probably going to be the most important conference out of all past NA’s.

I loved the dream. AMEN to it.  It’s a reminder that we ONLY bring weakness, and childish things, and unrighteousness, and failure to the table.  Praise God!!! We need daily reliance on Christ’s accomplished work… especially for a conference centered on the gospel!

I think God does want us to take our dreams seriously.  I think that even if our dreams are not divinely composed and inserted into our minds, God has designed us to become aware of certain thoughts and realities that we might otherwise push aside in our waking hours.  It is possible that your dream could show that you tend to see a lot of people shrugging off God’s call to reach certain hard to reach groups of people.  To explain that, just a few weeks ago a young lady was talking about how deaf people are often set back years in their reading skills and that there isn’t a good translation of the Bible in sign language.  So maybe your dream was an inkling that more servants need to be gathered to help in this particular area or maybe more broadly with disabled people in general.

wow. that’s just scary. wait…it’s coming to me…wait for it…got it! how bout tae bo? was anyone doing tae bo during worship? if so, it could’ve been a flashback to a celebration south message where you showed everyone your tae bo skillz. :-D

the interpretation is: never blog your dreams for they will produce many comments…

(wait, was that an interpretation or a fortune?)

nothing to worry about… here in my place, many folks believe that, dreams never come true… but the opposite of your dream does…! [funny right?]
In the first place, the work is not yours, but God’s!
