Meet Jennifer

Hey fellow Next-ers! My name is Jennifer Lightfoot. I live in Orlando, FL which is pretty much the best place EVER. Here’s a quick run-down on me:

_ i’m the oldest of five kiddos and came to Christ when i was about four but really began to own my faith when i was about 17

_i wrecked my first car in 2006
_2008 highlight: coordinating the yes2marriage campaign for my county so that we could pass the marriage amendment in florida…and pass, it did – with 62% of the vote!

_2008 highlight #2 (am i allowed to have two?):  learned to like seafood! this is a really big deal. i mean a really big deal. i think salmon is my fave but i’m open to suggestions!

_my “do hard thing” for 2009: study mandarin
_my fave things to do: sit at Starbucks with my friends, going to worship team rehearsal, babysitting, surf facebook (don’t mock me - you know you do, too! =), doing a photo shoot of friends, going on mission trips to cuba, critiquing movies, blogging, working on our region’s conferences and going to conferences like Next!

_my least fave things to do: confront others about a sin issue, jog or run (bleh!), wake up early, go a day without coffee, be sick and have to miss work

_current spiritual disciplines focus: memorize a passage of Scripture a day with john piper’s fighter verses

_occupation: i have had the super amazing privilege of working for my church for the past eight years. i currently serve two of the pastors on staff – danny jones and benny phillips.

So, there you go! In the next few months you’ll be hearing from me about random stuff as well as ways we’re gonna be promo-ing the conference to people here in O-town. Feel free to share your ideas, too!

Jennifer, thanks for signing up to help us spread the word. Florida has always been such a huge support to the conference. That means a lot.

Haha, Jenn your hilarious

Allie Noske Mon Feb 2, 2009 at 1:13 pm

How did you make yourself like seafood?  I’ve been trying to make myself like it, but I just can’t.  Any helpful suggestions to get me enjoying seafood?

Hanhar Anderson Mon Feb 2, 2009 at 1:58 pm

I fear change, so you’re going to have to do some convincing to get me to go Jenn.

Jennifer Lightfoot Mon Feb 2, 2009 at 2:31 pm

Allie…I must confess, I started with sushi which I don’t recommend. It was extremely odd. :o) I have a ways to go before that stuff is super yummy. Haha!

I also experienced some really good quality seafood so find a good restaurant or a friend who cooks super awesome seafood. It turns out most of it was a mind thing…add to that I caved and ate creatures that swim with me in the ocean because my friends couldn’t believe I didn’t eat seafood and you have a good combo! Quality food with + a tad bit of fear of man = a new food group.  =)  Ok, ok, ok…don’t give in to the fear of man thing!! =)

Seriously, though, take it little by little and you may find one or two that you like and would even order again. I think the important thing is to just try new stuff…

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is an essay on how to learn to like seafood. Profound stuff, I know. =)

Steph Lightfoot Mon Feb 2, 2009 at 2:34 pm

Wow. I’ll be honest, still not a fan of seafood. That was a great first post though, sis. ;) Yay for the new website!

Jennifer Lightfoot Mon Feb 2, 2009 at 2:37 pm

Oh yes…um…Hanhar “Scottie” Anderson…I commendeth thee to go thither to-eth Next-eth. Plus, I heard Billy Joel is writing a song called “Next” and needs your ideas to help…

Or…take a look at the speakers page. ‘Nough said.

=)

JC Mon Feb 2, 2009 at 2:46 pm

Sushi is amazing…“Neil Man”

Jennifer Lightfoot Mon Feb 2, 2009 at 2:53 pm

Gracias, JC, por su ayuda. =)

Kristen Jones Mon Feb 2, 2009 at 3:29 pm

That picture of you is amazing!!  :)  You have to tell how you started “trying” seafood - tell the truth!!!
Love you!

Fancy that, im in Orlando too and heard about New Attitude, Now Next, via Josh’s books, the Boundless show etc. Im thinking about going to Next, but ive never been to a Sovereign Grace conference before. Maybe ill get a train of people to defray costs. We’ll see!

YellerDaisies Tue Feb 3, 2009 at 7:47 am

Great post, Jen. Love you girl!

Kyle Luther Tue Feb 3, 2009 at 3:06 pm

ok so how far into the seafood world have you gone? I mean are we talking “eel” or just different types of fish? O and the Mandarin learning should go well with the seafood…if you ever go to China you would do well to be able to down some slimy creatures!

Angie Baez Tue Feb 3, 2009 at 6:18 pm

I totally know this girl.

Kathy Peschau Tue Feb 3, 2009 at 7:56 pm

So I FINALLY read your post and I thought you did an amazing job :) I look forward to hearing what you have to say over the next few months :) Love you!

Jennifer Lightfoot Wed Feb 4, 2009 at 10:58 am

Casey C…if you’re in Orlando, hurray!!! Are you in a church here? If so, maybe we could team up to get the word out…Regardless, I’d love to meet you…I attend Metro Life Church in Casselberry. Our singles meeting is the fourth Saturday of every month at 7pm. Meet ya soon! :)

Kyle, I thiiiiiiink eel was a part of my initial seafood-ization…sushi an’ all. Not so impressed. But….when in China, do as the Chinese do, right? :)

Angie, I’m not sayin’...

Love you, Kathy. ;)

Allie Wed Feb 4, 2009 at 1:48 pm

Thanks Jen, for the seafood essay.  I can eat sushi if it has the imitation crab meat.. California rolls, i think they are called?  Whatever. I’m gonna go to a restaurant and order sometihng and make myself like it.  I think it’s more of a texture thing.. like shrimp.  ew. Maybe this will be just a mind thing and I’ll get over it.  I’ll let you know how it turns out if I run into you at next.  hopefully by may i’ll have eaten something that swims in the ocean..

Latricia Wed Feb 4, 2009 at 9:07 pm

Hi Jennifer, thanks for helping out with getting the word out, looking forward to actually getting to meet you in person. And I think I might actually be learning to like seafood too!

Casey Clark Thu Feb 5, 2009 at 11:20 pm

Jenn, yeah i go to First Baptist Winter Garden over here on the west side of town. Maybe i’ll take you up on coming over to Metro Life Church some time.

And oh yeah, ive been to China, and there is plenty of weird slimy stuff to eat. Not too much Sushi though, thats Japanese. Fish Head soup though, with a whole fish head in it, wasnt too bad; The eyes are considered a delicacy 8-)

Linda Sickles Sat Feb 7, 2009 at 8:15 pm

how can u live in florida and not eat seafood.  although i won’t even try sushi.  this will be my first time going and it’s going to be a real act of faith if i can get there.
